The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, therefore he has

anointed me to give good news to the destitute.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom to prisoners

and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed

free, to proclaim an acceptable year of the Lord.

JUBILEE 175

1849-2024

Farm Street Church opened its doors on 31st July 1849, the Solemnity of Saint Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).  Our 175th anniversary year commenced on 8th December 2023, the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with the first of the three major liturgies of our Jubilee year, a Solemn Mass celebrated by His Excellency Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, Apostolic Nuncio to the Court of St James’s.

The celebrations will continue throughout the year and will, we hope, involve all of our parishioners and friends.  These are just a few of the highlights:

 •  A walk to sites in the history of the Jesuits in London

•  A fundraising concert by Bobby Chen, piano, on 1st May

•  An event for the children of the parish

•  An exhibition on the history of Farm Street Church

•  A fundraising summer party with dancing, on 7th June

•  A parish picnic on Sunday, 9th June

•  The Jubilee Mass of Thanksgiving on 31st July, the Solemnity of St Ignatius Loyola

•  An ecumenical pilgrimage to Canterbury in the autumn

•  The Jubilee Ball on 5th October at the Savile Club

•  A Solemn Mass celebrated by Cardinal Vincent Nichols on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady, which will close the Jubilee year

Details of all these events, and more, will be published throughout the year in the parish Newsletter and on the parish website.  Everyone is warmly invited to take part in any or all of these events.

Join with us in giving thanks to Almighty God for the blessings showered upon our parish and our parishioners and in celebrating our history over these past 175 years.

FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

We are also launching an anniversary campaign to raise £175,000 in 2024.  These funds will then be divided among a number of important parish projects:

•  Refurbishment of the wooden floor of the church

•  Essential repair work to the roof of the church building

•  Continuing reduction of the parish deficit

•  Support of Catholic Listeners, an initiative of the parish

•  Ongoing charitable works of the parish

All may wish to consider supporting us by making a donation, however large or small, to this campaign and all contributions received before the first of July will be gratefully acknowledged in the order of service of the Jubilee Mass.  Donations received after then will be acknowledged in the order of service of our patronal feast in December.  Donors may, of course, remain anonymous.

Names of donors will be listed under four levels of giving, but without the actual amount of the donation noted.  For example, a donation of £50 would simply appear as a name, but not an amount, in the list of Bronze Patrons.

Bronze Patrons (£1-£99)

Silver Patrons (£100-£999)

Gold Patrons (£1,000-£4,999)

Platinum Patrons (£5,000+)
